Post CAASPP - Stay the Course And Engage Students (yes, have fun too!)

Welcome to 'Huddle Time' - the purpose of this time is to provide a short video that offers student centered ideas to consider for your classroom.

Today's Huddle Time focuses on

    -  Post CAASPP classroom instruction

You have spent over 150 days engaging with students every day this year - you have spent countless hours planning and developing lessons - you have created meaningful and relevant learning experiences for your students - and just as important you have a created a safe environment for your students through clear expectations and routines established in your classroom.

I encourage you to continue with everything you have been doing and finish the race as strong as you started.  The benefit of continuing to set learning targets every day is:

        -  Student accountability

        -  Classroom management

        -  Continuing to make those student connections

        -  Creating a safe environment for your students

Ideas to consider after CAASPP testing:

        -  Mini projects aligned to grade level standards

                -  My examples:

                        -  Spiral of Pythagoras (Pythagorean Theorem)

                                -  Student love to color and create

                        -  Geometry Project (Compass)

                                -  Students enjoy using the compass and creating designs from circles

        -  Gamify grade level skills

                -  My example:  Stinky Feet (Solving Equations)

So many more ideas are out there to stay the course - I encourage you to brainstorm new ideas or continue to use tried and tested activities from previous years - with the goal of keeping students engaged till the end of school.

Welcome to 'Huddle Time' - the purpose of this time is to provide a short video that offers student centered ideas to consider for your classroom.

Today's Huddle Time focuses on

    -  Motivating students to do multiple problems in a short amount of time

Resource:

    -  Spinner

My takeaways:

    -  Students are hyper-focused during the 10 minute work period

    -  Students complete many more problems when I introduce this activity

    -  I can use this activity best with fluency review skills

        - Remembering that overusing an activity will lose its appeal with students
